About Soluna Leatherworks

Soluna Leatherworks is owned and run by Joslyn Baker, a mestiza, queer, artist based in Sonoma, California.

The Soluna Leatherworks story

Years ago, getting ready to go on a vacation, Joslyn couldn’t find the leather bag she envisioned to discreetly hold her camera, so she made one. Drawing on her self-taught leatherwork experience while in high school, a crude but serviceable bag was made. In the process, a love for leather craft was rekindled. As luck would have it, Joslyn was introduced to Bea Amblard, a former Hermés artisan and master leatherworker. She completed a year-long program learning European techniques in hand made luxury leather goods.

Joslyn's passion for producing finely made leather products stems from a long family history in the arts and crafts. More than eight generations of Bakers are master art glass craftspersons. Other family members are talented painters and musicians. Carrying on the family tradition of craft is deeply embedded in Joslyn's DNA.

A semi-retired commercial photographer, Joslyn has extensive experience shooting both on location and in the studio since 1980. Her work covers a variety of industries, and includes product, food & beverage, lifestyle, architecture, fine art, industrial and travel photography. About the process

Joslyn's affinity for minimalist design and attention to detail is the foundation for all her creative endeavors. Her leather goods are designed and hand crafted to love, and last. Some of the specialized tools used to transform high-quality leather into function and beautiful items include the skiving knife, pricking iron, diamond awl, harness needles, hand-waxed thread, and a stitching pony. That, and hours upon hours of hand stitching and edge finishing. Read more about how to customize your order or get a bespoke product.
